It's a mellow one today, to compensate for such a long day of dealing with grumpy people. :/

Dear Friend,
your blog, for whatever reason, refuses to load properly, or to allow me to scroll (either up or down) or post comments. Lord only knows why, but superstitious as I am not, I'm blaming it on the weather.
At any rate, if you can feel the lump through his chest now then I'd be assuming it's some sort of tumor (sorry). The likely-hood of him having a cyst on his back that you can still feel through his chest is slim to none, but again, I'm not a doctor. If I were you, which clearly I'm not or you'd be here instead of there, I would tell him to put on the big boy panties and get it checked out. And failing that, I'd drug his sorry butt with...I don't know, pig sedatives? And haul him down to the ER. Better to have a grumpy QD than a dead one.
I have much more to say, but really by that I mean I have lots of questions. Things that I'm wondering about. Or maybe I don't. Maybe I just want a chance to poke your bruises (and have you poke mine) and then we can sit and commiserate together, it's hard to say. But there's some sort of interaction-type-thing that people do, you know, with one another that's missing here amidst all the ransomed internet drama.
So I guess my point is that you should call me. You know, sometime. Preferably not on Tuesdays or Thursdays. Or maybe that's exactly when you should call. It's hard to say. You just call when you're free and hopefully the planets will align and I'll be free too.
I'm really sorry about the concentrated crazy and all the bitter grumpiness that's surrounding you. The desert, despite its many, MANY flaws, is really not nearly so bad. It's even better once you've been elsewhere.
Remind me tomorrow, to tell you a story about bluejeans. It will at least make you smile for a minute, even if it's at my expense. Lots and lots of love. XOXO

Must be the weather
Because everyone around here woke up grumpy today. Myself included.
In other news, I was emptying the lint trap out in the dryer today when I noticed a big ball of lint waaaayyyyy down in the hole where the lint screen thing goes. So, being the reasonable person I am, I stuck a marker in there to try and fish it out, only I dropped the marker. Yeah. It rolled back into the back of the machine, lost into the darkness. Fast forward a couple of hours when I'm trying to dry the hall rug. Yeah, you guessed it. The machine totally freaked out. It started making some horrible noise, so I opened the door to stop it...only it didn't stop. I had to throw the breaker to get it to shut off. Hopefully it gets fixed in the morning.
I also caught my cat lying on the stovetop, not eating the uncovered turkey I'd just finished cooking (which was warm, but not hot), but rather inexplicably licking the back burner.
Song of the day is Denali, which is (was?) one of those rare bands that is much, much better, and far more haunting live.
Lots of love Dear Friend.

Gooses song of the day!
This is my all time favorite Counting Crows song. Missin you like crazy dear friend.
Goose-
Goose-
Monday, Monday
Well, today was my last day of no work, no school for the break and I dare say it went much too fast. I am NOT looking forward to the start of the new semester just yet, which somehow feels strange to say out loud. I'm still trying to sleep off last semesters finals fatigue, but I'm sure I'll feel better once the new semester gets started.
The good news here is that somehow I have managed not to spend the entire winter terribly ill. I had that one really miserable bout of the flu after I got my flu shot, but other than that I've been well. Normally by this time of year I'm so exhausted from being continually sick for three months that I'm ready to just fall over dead. So I suppose I should count my blessings.
I spent the day doing laundry. Every single thing we own is clean. It took me just over 24 hours to do, but it's done.
I also got the Peaquod looking decent. We made a trip out to the local fish store (LFS) which is not exactly local, but you know, whatever. I got a midday bulb for the Johanna Karoline since they were out of the pink colormax bulbs, but I'm pretty happy with it. The only thing I dislike about the tank now is the background. Because we bought it secondhand for next to nothing from the (actually local) LFS before it went out of business the background was already painted blue. But because the tank is a blackwater tank, thanks to the driftwood releasing tannins, the background now looks like a weird shade of green. I might add some more carbon to the filter to try and minimize the effect, but I'm not sure yet. Don't know that I can justify spending the money on it, especially since I don't have any at all. Ha! Anyway, I switched out the substrate in the Peaquod, which was a massive pain in the butt, but it looks much better. Plus that large gravel is really hard to plant anything in. I added some plants and we got a large anglefish (yet to be named) and some cherry barbs and the tank looks lovely. (Thank God, because it was seriously becoming a bit of an eyesore).
The dog, for the first time ever, knocked over the garbage can Saturday night and ate an ENTIRE chicken carcass. Every. Last. Bone. So we spent a good deal of time fretting over her yesterday and today. Goose was very worried that she was going to die, particularly because the emergency vets charge an obscene amount of money upfront before they'll even do anything and we just couldn't afford to take her if anything went wrong. But she's fine. Fat and happy. Sleeping it off.
We didn't do anything for New Years, as per the usual. Mostly because neither of us are very social and parties make us anxious and are way too draining to be worth it. We don't really drink, don't like crowds, and aren't big on loud music so bars were out of the question, plus drunk people, both on foot and on the road are a variable I can't control which makes me panicky. Instead we hung out at home and worked our way through season 6 of the X-files. Sounds lame, I know, but it was nice. Even if we are becoming increasingly isolated in your absence.
I still haven't solved my book collection problem, but I'm working on it. We haven't gone fossil hunting in MONTHS. Mostly because the temp's been hovering around 11 degrees at the site, and neither of us want to brave THAT kind of cold. It's been in the 70's around these parts, and I'm much, much more comfortable with that.
I texted you on your Birthday, I think QD texted me back, but I'm not sure. I'm assuming that's who it was...anyway he said he'd be sure and let you know, and to have you call on your day off. Hopefully you got that message. Hopefully you actually get a day off sometime soon! I know, I know, you and I, we can't quite sit still.
Well my lovely, that's all I know. It's been pretty still around these parts.
Oh, and I think my sister's gone crazy, did I tell you that? That all she would talk about at x-mas was hippie food and calories and saturated fats and how Gramma's generation screwed up the food supply for the rest of us which is why we all have cancer (and why she 'needs' lipo for her 'mom thighs'). The other recurring topic of conversation was how she's convinced Dad (and Teena, lol) supports her smoking habit AND that she's going to get him smoking (weed) to prevent him from getting Alzheimer's. I tried to inject some logic into this conversation, but failed miserably. She's convinced she's onto something here. That she's going to save the world with her non-fat cool whip, quinoa, and some marijuana.
Aside from that, she actually got us all gifts this year, which is very unlike her. Lovely ones at that. And she did engage us in conversation all night which was nice, even if everything she says sounds a little crazy.
And THAT, is all I know. Hope things are decent in your neck of the woods. Miss you. Lots of love.

Okay, fish update. Finally.
Here are the tanks, as they appear now, or at least closer to it. I did get an appropriate light fixture for the Johanna Karoline. They did not have the freshwater unit so I had to get the salt water one which means I have a blue light instead of a pink one that needs to be swapped out, but since it's New Years and things are closed that's going to have to wait.
Erasmus died last night, which I thought might happen. We got him at Petco rather than at a local fish store and they guy there said this batch had been pretty badly beaten up in shipping so it might be a bit touch and go. And it was. So we've frozen his corpse to return tomorrow and will, from here on out purchase our angels from a breeder. Our other angel we got from a breeder and he's still going strong.
Anyway, here are some videos. Hope your day's been lovely Dear Friend. Love and Stuff.

FISH!
Okay, here's the first set of fish videos. There are two sets, mostly because I made these for you and then less than 12 hours later totally changed everything so I had to do a second round of videos. Of course NOW, I've changed it all again, and another set will be forthcoming...probably in another couple of weeks because uploading stuff to youtube is an unexpectedly horrific form of torture.
In other news, I sound really weird on tape. Really weird. Goose says that's how I always sound, but I cannot stress enough how different it sounds from the way I hear it, but that's neither here nor there I suppose.
So enjoy. Also, I hope your birthday was lovely. I miss you more than life, and I wish you were here, lost in the desert with the two of us. Lots of love.
(There's one more tank, the fry tank, but I haven't gotten that one uploaded. I'll add it here as soon as I do.) :)
*edit* Okay, here it is. Last one!
